Establishing Inclusive Learning Environments

A teacher establishes, promotes and sustains

inclusive learning environments where diversity

is embraced and every student is welcomed,

cared for, respected and safe.

Using appropriate universal and targeted strategies and supports to address students’ strengths, learning challenges and areas for growth; Throughout my courses as well as my practicum I learn many different ways to differentiate and adapt to the way each student learns.

Pictured is a differentiation assignment I did for my EDTS 234 Tutorial class.

This assignment was used to demonstrate my understanding of differentiation inside the classroom, and has helped me identify the differences from student to student.

employing classroom management strategies that promote positive, engaging learning environments; In my third-year practicum I was very proud of how much my classroom management developed.

Pictured is a comment left by my mentor teacher, Danielle Martin, on my final evaluation.

I feel extremely proud of the effort I put into understanding each student, and believe that it positively impacts my classroom management.

Incorporating students’ personal and cultural strengths into teaching and learning; In my 3rd year practicum I used my student's interests to keep them engaged in my lessons.

Pictured is a slide I used in a science lesson where I incorporated Minecraft in order to spark interest in students who I knew would have a hard time focussing.

This student was excited to see that I put it into the lesson, and it prompted a conversation about how plants are important in video games too!
