Demonstrating a Professional Body of Knowledge

A teacher applies a current and comprehensive

repertoire of effective planning, instruction, and

assessment practices to meet the learning needs of

every student.

Planning and designing learning activities that:

 - address the learning outcomes outlined in

programs of study; I have now created two lesson plans using the programs of study as an outline for my lesson.

Pictured is the lesson plan I taught in my Grade 2 Practicum class in Winter 2022.

Although there are many things I can still improve on, I believe that this lesson plan is extremely important to include. The lesson went much better than I anticipated it would, and I was extremely satisfied with the way the students understood and engaged with my lesson.

 - incorporate a range of instructional strategies, including the appropriate use(s) of digital technology, according to the context, content, desired outcomes and the learning needs of students; I have learned many educational websites in EDTS 325 that provide meaningful and appropriate use of online tools.

Pictured is a video assignment I created using EdPuzzle. If you click on the image, you can watch the video to see how it works.

 - build student capacity for collaboration; In my 3rd year practicum, I created a Jeopardy-style game for review to wrap up our unit before moving on to our final activity.

Pictured is the board I created that prompted students with categories and points that they were prompted to answer in their groups.

My students loved this activity, they were able to use teamwork to come up with answers. They enjoyed the competition but also worked with applying the content provided.

 - incorporate digital technology and resources, as appropriate, to build student capacity for:

  1. acquiring, applying and creating new knowledge;

  2. communicating and collaborating with others,

  3. critical-thinking; and

  4. accessing, interpreting and evaluating information from diverse sources;

In EDTS 325, we incorporated technology into lessons to create meaningful learning that is relevant, engaging and informational.

Pictured is an assignment I made using ThingLink.

If you click on the image, you can see what I did with the tool. I was able to provide information and question students at the same time, while making the content feel like a video game.

Using instructional strategies to engage students in meaningful learning activities, based on:

 - a knowledge of how students develop as learners; In EDTS 325, we learned how to create meaningful lesson plans.

Pictured, is the worksheet I created to demonstrate my knowledge of a "power sheet" rather than a "busy sheet", and how to create an effective worksheet that benefits student engagement and learning in the classroom.
